Junior MTB Camps

Our Junior Mountain Bike Camps are geared towards ambitious male and female cyclists between the ages of 12 and 18 who are hungry to challenge themselves and experience the best mountain biking Virginia has to offer. We are fortunate to have some of the country’s best mountain bike destinations within driving distance, and hundreds of interscholastic racers can tell you that the quality and variety of courses at Miller School of Albemarle will test your physical limits. Daily rides and skills sessions, combined with seminars from area professionals covering topics ranging from nutrition and training to mechanics and bike fit ensure even the most experienced riders will come away with increased knowledge and confidence in the sport.

Race Camp – July 15-17 – Bigger And Better In 2015!

With the rapid growth of interscholastic racing around the country (the state of Virginia in particular), many junior mountain bikers are increasingly interested in improving their performance, speed, efficiency, and strategy . This 3-day camp will accomplish those goals, and more.

Each day will focus on a different discipline of the sport. Dedicated courses will be set up for short track, eliminator, cross country, and marathon training. Few things are as motivating as friendly competition, so count on bumping bars with other campers and sprinting for the holeshot! Counselors also get in on the action, giving real-time feedback and tactical advice.

Working with experienced regional professionals, campers will learn the ins and outs of what it takes to perform at their absolute best. From nutrition to pacing, bike setup to descending technique, if it will increase your ability to quickly and safely cover ground on a mountain bike it will be covered in this camp.

All camp activities will take place at Miller School of Albemarle and take full advantage of their scenic 1600 acre campus with expansive network of campus trails.

While a detailed schedule will be sent to all attendees before camps begin, below is a broad outline of what each day will hold:

  • Friday afternoon – Check-in, campus trails run through, Short Track
  • Saturday morning – Eliminator
  • Saturday afternoon – Marathon
  • Sunday morning – Cross country
  • Sunday afternoon – Check-out

Seminars will be held each evening and some mornings. Like other Cutaway Bike Camps, down time will be spent relaxing in the Miller School pool, 12 acre lake, or utilizing several of the other facilities at our disposal.

Travel Camp – July 17-23 – A Full Day Longer For 2015!

Virginia is arguably the best place in the United States to ride a mountain bike, and this camp showcases ever reason why! Often referred to by counselors as a mountain bike “lifestyle” camp, the Mountain Bike Travel Camp takes advantage of everything that makes fat-tire riding so great in the state of Virginia. Each day, campers will experience brand new trails in all-day epic rides. From the extended climbs and descents of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the flow and technical nature of the Piedmont, there is no shortage of world-class riding.

Endurance and fitness come hand in hand with increased skills and confidence over the course of the 5 days. Every challenging climb is followed by an amazing descent, and you can’t wait to crest the next hill.

Each location visited has unique qualities that make it a must-ride location. Douthat State Park features hour-long climbs and rewarding descents with breathtaking views. Preddy Creek offers unparalleled flow and an expert loop that challenges the most experience riders. Miller School of Albemarle is a student-built paradise with skills parks, engineered trail features, and miles of rolling singletrack.

The daily schedule is weather dependent, but campers can expect to ride the following trail networks over the duration of the camp:

  • Douthat State Park
  • Fountainhead Regional Park
  • Preddy Creek
  • Walnut Creek
  • Miller School of Albemarle Campus Trails

Evenings are filled with informative seminars and motivational mountain bike videos. A trip to historic downtown Charlottesville for dinner one night is always a hit, and we don’t hesitate to take advantage of Miller School’s pool and lake when there is time.

Attendance of both camps is welcome and encouraged. Register for both camps and a $100 discount will be applied when checking out on BikeReg. Discounts are available for teams sending 3 riders or more; team directors please contact us. Space in the 5-day Mountain Bike Travel Camp is limited to just 28 campers and will fill quickly.
